Pemberton Cookbook

White Moravian Christmas Cookies

These cut out cookies were a staple every year growing up in Pennsylvania. Making Christmas cookies was a family affair each weekend in advent until we had filled every container in the house with cookies of all kinds.

Makes 12 dozen cookies

Ingredients:

Directions:

Sift flour and baking soda together; set aside.

Cream butter until softened.

Add sugar gradually, creaming until fluffy.

Add the eggs in thirds, beating well after each addition.

Alternately add dry ingredients in fourths and cream in thirds to creamed mixture,

Mix until blended after each addition.

Stir in water.

Chill dough for several hours.

Using a small amount of dough at a time, roll out dough about 1/8 inch thick on floured surface.

Cut with fancy cookie cutters.

Transfer to cookie sheets.

Bake at 350°F about 12 minutes.
