President of the Confederacy

Jefferson Davis grew up in Mississippi.

He went to West Point and became a soldier.

Jefferson Davis bought a plantation and many slaves to work on it.

He was elected a US Senator from Mississippi.

After the south seceded, Jefferson Davis was elected President of the Confederacy.

After the Confederacy was defeated, Jefferson Davis was indicted for treason.

He was jailed for two years and then, when bond was posted, he was released.

Jefferson Davis traveled to Canada, Cuba and Europe.

Later, he was elected to the Senate but was not allowed to serve.

The 14th Amendment said he was ineligible to hold public office.

Later in life he ran businesses, wrote books and visited Europe again.

Jefferson Davis was 81 years old when he died.
