James Madison

Father of the Constitution

James Madison grew up on a plantation in Orange County, Viginia.

He went to college and became a lawyer.

James Madison helped to write the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights.

He helped Thomas Jefferson make the Louisiana Purchase.

James Madison was elected the 4th President of our country.

His wife, Dolley, showed how to be a gracious First Lady.

James Madison was president during the War of 1812.

Before the war he opposed a national bank, but afterwards, he changed his mind.

Before he died, James Madison help to re-write the Virginia Constitution.
