The fall is getting off to a fine start! The school buses are rolling by my house everyday, and, with so much to do for Educational Synthesis, I haven't had a moment to shed a tear that I am not at a school waiting for the children.

In the second week of September, we put the Educational Synthesis website on Google Analytics, so that we can monitor what folks are using on the site. The numbers are heartening. There are four main sections to the analytics: Educational Synthesis, My Own Books, Famous Americans, and Mrs. P's Links. The most popular section of the site, hands down, is Famous Americans. The use of Famous Americans is approaching 1,000 page views per day, and rising. There seems to be no page in Famous Americans that is not being used by someone somewhere. The Educational Synthesis pages seem to have a strong international audience and My Own Books is being used in all the countries that speak English. Mrs. P's Links are getting the least traffic of the four sections of the site. I expect that will change as I complete the re-organization of that content.

Of course, the first new business, is the update of the Holidays pages. There is now a skeleton page for each month of the year in addition to the September page added last month. The October page is ready to use as you plan your special days for the month. The calendar is not as full as September, but we have the biggie - Halloween right there at the end. Be sure to check out the printable decorations to make your classroom the brightest in the building!

A major effort this month has been to update the Printables pages. The first task was to re-organize and make simpler to use all the various Math Printables made over the years. I have organized some of the Language Printables, but that is not yet complete. There are additions, but there is more to come.

Mrs. P's Links is undergoing a major revision to increase the subject-oriented offerings and provide better organization so that students and teachers can more easily find what they are looking for. Look for changes under Language Arts, Math, Science, and Music. The Kids Print Fun page for students has also been updated.

Logo for Chemistry

Under the Science banner, a new section on Chemistry has been started by adding links to Matter to an exceptional site, Chem4Kids. I hope to make some pages with Experiments that are easy enough for children to do at home as well as in the classroom. Need to test them before putting them into place.

The Music section in Mrs. P's Links has also been updated to include a few more pieces of music with corresponding pages including the words to the songs and pictures. It was disappointing that I cannot get a copy of "Sweet Virginia Breeze" that will work on the site, so consoled myself with putting up a page of pictures. In addition, "Hands Across the Seas" compiled by Randy Cabell has been added. It is a large file, so if you are on dial up, it will take awhile. The music and words to Happy Birthday are now on a page which can be used in the classroom or home when needed. I have also included a page for America the Beautiful with some photos of places I have visited. The music and words for Yankee Doodle are also now on the site.

A new section has been added to Mrs. P's Links under Language Arts. The new Alphabet section contains a set of worksheets on which the student prints the letter, 2-3 words, and 1-2 sentences using the letter. There is also a set of nine colorful worksheets called AlphaLetters which provide one line on which to print each of the letters of the alphabet.

Logo for Language Arts

Also new under Language Arts is a set of Autobiographical Worksheets which ask the student to answer questions on their own paper in a complete sentence. This replaces the older Autobiography fill-in-the-blanks worksheet to encourage students to write in complete sentences. As with the older Autobiography, these worksheets can be used as a prelude to having the students write an Autobiography. Since the student may need to ask parents for some of the information asked for on the worksheets, they could be used for homework sheets prior to the classroom writing of the autobiography. They may also be useful on days when a sub is needed.

Logo for Famous Americans

There has been just one new addition to Famous Americans. It is Jane Addams. So far, according to the daily statistics, a number of people have been waiting for her page to be completed.

Well, I hope I haven't forgotten anything added new this month. There have been no new books, but I hope to get back to writing them next month.

Long Live Lively Learning, Y'all!!!
