Summer is in full swing! We are our first homegrown tomato on the last day of June. The Fourth of July was a blast spent at the beach in Mathews County, Virginia.

New additions under Poetry include: African Lullaby, Thailand Lullaby, Peas, I Can and Prickled Pickles. These were found in a book of poems collected by the Artis children in 2001-02. |

The Grammar section is a new category in Language Arts. So far only two games/exercises are included: A Letter to Nancy lets a student build a friendly letter by adding grammatically correct sentences, and A Letter to Sonya lets a student fill in blanks in a friendly letter with the correct form of common verbs and pronouns. |

The Literature Page is another new category in Language Arts. This category features reading lists, some of which include sources for the work either online or for purchase. At the bottom of the page are listed a number of online library sources. The three lists so far are for Science Fiction, History Lit, and Mythology. More coming! |
| Alphabet Lessons This is a full first year curriculum for learning the alphabet one letter per week. The basis of the lessons were used in the Kindergarten classes at Southside Elementary. The site includes variations for the blind, the deaf, tactile-oriented, and other special needs students. | |

Kindergarten English from Texas: The first start has been made to incorporate more learning objectives from other states. The English section of the Kindergarten objectives from the Texas TEKS objectives has been added. |
| The Battle of Five Forks This website was moved and updated from Virginia's PEN. The site was created in 1996 after an attempt was made to re-create the battle in Grassroots MOO. The website includes summaries of the battle and some details on the life of Confederate soldiers, and features photos taken at a re-enactment of the battle in 1996 as well as photos from the period stored in the National Archives. | |

History is a new section under Social Studies (which is currently being updated). At present there is a link to Paleo-History which connects to the science links on Early Hominids and Human Fossils. There is now a link to the American Civil War with links to many good sites for information on this major event in American history. |

Holiday pages are now under Mrs. P's Links. They were the first pages made when I was teaching at Southside and needed Internet links that the little ones could use. If you have the favorited at school, you will want to make a note to update the link. |

Lesson Plans have always been a rough outline in my head, but on this site, I am sharing some of the lessons developed to use with the K-2 crowd in the computer lab at Southside. These lesson plans are now on their own subdirectory. Also included are the Zman lesson plans. |

Arts and Crafts is a new addition to Mrs. P's links. For now, the links on it are activities that are already listed on other pages, but with the winter holidays ahead, it is expected that this page will fill up quickly. |
