  1. Adminstration: Build database of students and computer access. Distribute textbooks, syllabus, class rules, and list of assignments. Discuss all materials and instruct students to put them in their notebook.
  2. Chapter 1: Principles of Government. Section 1: Government and the State. Read and discuss textbook.
  3. Assignment: Open book quiz for Chapter 1, Section 1.

  1. Chapter 1: Principles of Government. Section 2: Forms of Government. Read and discuss information in textbook.
  2. Assignment: Open book quiz for Chapter 1, Section 2.
  3. Homework: Students choose a current event news article from newspaper or Internet.

  1. Current Events: Class began with a review of the day's New York Times. Titles of articles on Front Page are read and identified as related to government or not, and what level of government (international, national, state, local). Students then share their articles, reading the title, stating the level of government involved, and summarizing the article. Students keep articles in notebook.

  1. Activity: Group Project2. Election for President. In Groups decide who to choose for the Democratic candidacy, Post vote on board to tally. Return to groups and choose between the winning Democratic candidate and the Republican candidate. Groups write reports defending their votes on the published issues.
  2. Handout: Political issues are supplied to students, printed from the Internet. Students save in Government notebook.
