Agriculture. In the opening picture we see some young women milking cows.
Agriculture is defined as the growing of crops for food, clothing, and other needs.
Many farms are located around the cities and towns. These farms grow crops for foods including grains, vegetables and fruits. Sometimes these farms grow crops for making clothing, such as cotton, linen, and silk. And sometimes, these farms also raise domestic animals like sheep, goats, cattle, hogs, llamas and alpacas which are also used for food and clothing.
At the same time, some civilizations cultivated nearby forests. They chose trees and shrubs so they could produce wood, nuts, and berries. They also hunted the wildlife living in the forest, to use for food, clothing, and shelter.
Some civilizations were located near large bodies of water. They fished for food as part of their agricultural practice.
The first picture shows a garden in Africa. The second picture is a ripe boll of cotton.
The closing picture is of a corn field with a walking path for checking the crop.
