Government: The opening picture shows Queen Zenobia, a ruler of Ancient Syria.

Modern civilization usually allows the people to choose their leader and make their laws.

In the early societies, leaders rose from among the people. The leaders set the goals and they guided the people to their completed goals. In early civilizations, these leaders inherited their positions. These people became leaders by being related to other generations of leaders. This method did not always gurantee that the leaders were the best people for the positions.

As civilizations developed, people began to select their leaders. Some countries still have kings and queens. But most countries vote for their government.

The first picture shows the current leader of the United States, President Barrack Obama. The second picture shows the United States' Congress who make the laws for United States.

The closing picture shows a Pharaoh, a ruler and a god in Ancient Egypt.
