Mrs. P's Lesson Plans for Social Studies

Social Skills

Daily Activities: Directions to teach students a daily greeting to teacher and each other, a daily calendar activity, Daily Good-Bye activity and more. Ideal for first year of school (Pre-School), Kindergarten, and Special Education classes.

Mobility Lessons: Plans to teach students how to find their way around the school and its environs. These plans were created to use with blind students, but will be equally useful for Kindergarten or first year classes as well as classes for students with special needs.

Government

Government Course Lesson Plans: Plans for the full course to be presented in daily 90 minute lessons in a single semester

Current Events

Track the President: Plans for a project that lasts the whole year or more, or any shorter period desired. The project constructs either a webpage or a scrapbook that provides Internet links to position speeches of the president (or governor), with a summary of his/her promises, combined with links to news that describes the outcome of these promises - whether they are fulfilled, how, and if not, why not. An end of project summarizes all the information collected.

Ancient Civilizations

Comparing Ancient Egypt, Ancient China to the Present: This plan meets the Virginia SOL objective in social studies 2.1. In this unit, the students learn some of the basics of ancient Egypt and ancient China such as architecture, inventions, and written language and how these ancient societies contributed to our modern culture.

Course: Introduction to Civilization with 17 video mini-lessons discuss the important concepts of a civilization.

Civilization Report: Instructions and form for elementary level report on a civilization.
